Overview
The 2016 Monkey King at Times Square event transformed one of New York City’s busiest public spaces into a large-scale Chinese New Year performance inspired by the legendary Monkey King from Journey to the West.
Featuring approximately one hundred costumed performers and elements of traditional Peking Opera, the flash mob combined Chinese cultural storytelling with a contemporary public performance designed for both the live Times Square audience and television viewers. DAV Production provided the video production and post-production for the resulting TV special.

Result
A visually energetic cultural TV special that captured the scale, color, movement, and spontaneous audience interaction of the Times Square performance while presenting the Monkey King story to an international audience through television and digital distribution.
The production received a Bronze Telly Award for Live Event Production in 2016, adding an award-winning cultural event to DAV’s television portfolio.
